Prince William receives a military title from King Charles III instead of Prince Harry

There will be some questions about Prince William’s new title. King Charles III stated earlier this week that his eldest son would become the Army Air Corps’ Colonel-in-Chief, despite Prince Harry having actually served with the force in Afghanistan.

According to The Independent, Harry would have taken over his father’s 31-year-old position if he had not resigned from his royal duties.

William and Harry are both qualified military pilots, but during Harry’s second deployment in Afghanistan, he was assigned to the Army Air Corps. William served as a search and rescue pilot and then an air ambulance pilot in the military, but he did not participate in any actual combat missions.

After His Majesty’s Accession in August 2023, the King was happy to announce military appointments, among them the Prince of Wales’s appointment as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps.

His Majesty the King served as Prince of Wales for thirty-one years prior to assuming the position, according to a statement from Kensington Palace.

The news was released on the same day that Harry travelled to the UK to commemorate the Invictus Games’ tenth anniversary.

Following a great deal of conjecture, a duke’s representative verified that Harry would not be seeing his father because of the king’s “full programme.” “The duke, naturally, hopes to see his father soon and is understanding of his diary of commitments and various other priorities.”

When Harry learned of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis in February, he reportedly travelled quickly to the UK to be by his father’s side for 45 minutes. That was the last time the two saw each other.
